Missoula Art Museum

About the Business

Missoula Art Museum is a free contemporary art museum in downtown Missoula. It opened in 1975 inside the city’s former 1903 Carnegie Library and expanded in 2006 through a $5.3 million project that joined the historic building to a modern addition.

MAM presents rotating exhibitions and maintains collections focused on contemporary Indigenous art, Montana Modernism and American folk art. Its Contemporary American Indian Art Collection began through a 1997 partnership between executive director Laura Millin and artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith.

Education is a central part of the museum’s work. The Fifth Grade Art Experience has served more than 50,000 youth, including students from rural communities and schools of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.

The museum remains admission-free and extends into the surrounding downtown block through its outdoor Art Park.
